The derelict former home of world-famous mathematician George Boole is currently being refurbished. He conceived of Boolean algebra at UCC, whose research laid the groundwork for modern computing.

UCC, where Boole was the first Professor of Mathematics, celebrated 200 years since his birth last year with a string of events, including announcing  plans to restore the house at 5 Grenville Place in conjunction with Cork City Council. Work on renovating the house began in July and will continue into the New Year.
